With so many of my friends still in school or on the job hunt ... I thought it would be nice to talk about skin care remedies you can create from products found in your home. Not only are these skin solutions easier on the wallet, it also eliminates the chemicals that are found in store bought products. Double win!
So let's begin with facial scrubs.
Ingredients:
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Brown Sugar / Salt
Directions:
Oily Skin :: 1 tsp of extra virgin olive oil stir in 1 tsp of salt ** you want a grainy texture**
Dry Skin :: 1 tsp of extra virgin olive oil stir in 1 tsp of sugar **you want a grainy texture**
Instructions:
1. Remove makeup.
2. Rinse face with water.
3. Gently massage in olive oil and sugar/salt mix to face in circular motions with fingertips.
4. Rinse off with warm-hot water thoroughly.
5. Pat dry with towel
6. Enjoy your smooth, exfoliated skin!
Why these ingredients?
1. EVOO :: Sooo before I go off about how wonderful EVOO is ... let's begin with smashing a common misconception about EVOO and oily skin. What is the misconception, you ask? Well ... it's the idea that EVOO would be horrible for oily skin--that the oil would simply add oil to the face and increase acne. Fact of the matter is ... EVOO helps to break down the sebum without stripping the skin entirely of necessary oils. Stripping the face of oils will actually stimulate the skin to produce even MORE oil to compensate. So instead of washing your face with soap and water 4 times a day ... wash it once with soap and once with EVOO. You'll thank me for it later ;)
So what makes EVOO so great? Well ... this magical potion of goodness has fat composition that is quite similar to the human skin. Because of this similarity ... it rarely causes allergic reactions. EVOO has high percentage of unsaturated fat as well as vitamin A and E -- which helps to prevent sun damage and soothe sensitive skin. Also ... because it is an oil, it breaks down the sebum, yet still manages to help retain moisture to your skin. Notice how women with oily skin rarely have wrinkles? EVOO is perfect for fighting against those wrinkles ;) If it's good enough for Sophia Loren ... then it's good enough for me.
2. Sugar / Salt :: Natural. Cheap. Perfect. What more could you ask for in a scrub? Not only are these lil guys all natural and always in your kitchen (well, most kitchens) they are the perfect size and texture for a smooth, fresh feeling finish.
My Thoughts:
Would I ever leave you without my thoughts? NEVER!
I love EVOO. Not only is it good for you to eat ... I love that it's good for your skin (and hair!) as well. It may not be the cheapest of cooking oils ... but you will thank me for recommending this addition to your kitchen (and skincare routine). So scrub away (with a light hand), my pets. It will help clear away the dead skin cells and result in a glowy face :)
*please note that I am not a dermatologist and cannot guarantee that this will work for everyone*
